Week 3 Edge Workshop

Operation 1
Focused separating outside and inside, and next divided into a small space and large space. A corn shape of roof adds an visual aesthetic.

Operation 2
Two isolated large and small space keep their privacy. The shape adds a dynamical sense by looking at it.
Operation 3
Now I gave more complexity. Such complexity creates more spaces. Each isolated space would create each different moments. People who is standing against the wall may feel stability.
Workshop 1 - Schroder house (Small space - kitchen)
Workshop 2 - Mobius house (Small space - meeting area)
Comparison of two small spaces
Similarities: Each edge composed a small space. Glasses on the edge allow lots of light.

Difference: The meeting room in Mobius house has a connection to other space(except the aisle), whereas the kitchen in Schroder house is closed.
Workshop 2 - Large space in Schroder house
Workshop 2 - Large space in Mobius house
Comparison of two large spaces
Similarity : Large space is separated to smaller space by the edges.
Difference : Bi-fold and sliding door in Schroder house can be both the edge and connection to other space. In Mobius house, there is no door. However, each edge divides the spaces and offers open space as well as the connection to other space.
Reflection
Edges are an element that establishes a space. They create a boundary between space and it also divides large space to smaller space. Depending on how architect aligns the edges within the building, efficiency of space and spatiality can be different. The doors also can be the edges. Especially, bi-fold door enables the transition to open and closed spaces.
Using edges, architect can create an isolated space, private area (enclosed) and so on. A form of edge is diverse. It can be bent, it can be solid, it can embed a void or closure (not a perfect shape as architect intends to make a hole or cut off a part).
Edges also can be a component that decides the appearance of the building's facade, depending on how architect manipulates the outside edges.
Through the charrette and workshops, I learned how to create and how to seperate a space with edges, as well as how to design the building by manipulating edges.
